Mourinho revealed this week that he is keen to bring in two more players, however, he isn't confident about United transfer chiefs meeting his demands.
And according to The Independent, Mourinho is considering a move for Croatia's World Cup ace Ante Rebic after giving up fussballtrikots günstig on signing Willian.
Chelsea winger Willian was Mourinho's top target, however, the Red Devils feel it will be too difficult to sign the Brazil international.
Ivan Perisic, who also impressed at the World Cup in Russia, was also an option.
However, Inter Milan are demanding around £80m for the winger, 29 - a price tag United are unwilling to meet.
The Independent add that Eintracht Frankfurt star Rebic is the latest forward to catch Mourinho's eye.
Rebic, 24, had a solid World Cup as Russia reached the final in Russia.
The Independent say Rebic is a more economic option as the attacker is ready to make a step up from the Bundesliga outfit.
However, Bayern Munich are also in the hunt for the Croatia star this summer.
United ">fußballtrikots still remain interested in Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale, however, The Independent reckon Red Devils executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is more interested than Mourinho.
Mourinho would happily sign the Wales international, 29, however, the Special One would still want to focus on other areas.
Woodward knows Bale would be ideal for United both on and off the pitch in terms of commercial value.
